9 Ways to Get More Out of Google Analytics

Already know and love Google's data tools? Here are nine cool features you may not be using--but should.

You probably already love Google Analytics because it gives you a big picture look at how your website is performing. You probably also love it because it is free and easy to install.
But I have come up with nine more reasons to love Google Analytics. Check out these sophisticated tracking tools you might not even be aware of:

1. Set up "event tracking"

Event Tracking is a feature of Google Analytics you use to track different actions visitors take on your website, such as clicking a button or downloading a file. It is useful for tracking actions on your website that don't take the user to a new page (i.e. clicking play on a video player). This will help you to understand which features and calls to action are being utilized and which are being ignored.

2. Track page load time

If your site is loading slowly, you are guaranteed to be losing traffic. Web users are impatient and have a very short attention span. If your site is loading slowly, get help immediately! Find an expert who can both diagnose and fix the problem.

3. Setting session length to the right amount

By default, a session in Google Analytics is set to 30 minutes. That means that if a user is inactive on your website for over 30 minutes, their next move on your website will be counted as a second visit with a brand new set of pages that will be part of that visit. For some websites it is beneficial to see the entire "flow" of one long visit, regardless of idle time.

4. Create "funnels"

Google Analytics allows you to track the steps visitors take to achieve a specific goal. Let's say your goal is to have a visitor make a purchase of a specific product. The "funnel" is all of the pages that lead a visitor to this desired goal. By listing and tracking your funnel pages, you get great data on where visitors are dropping off (in this case, not making a purchase) along the buying funnel. Armed with this knowledge, you can fix the weak links in the buying chain.

5. Establish "cross-domain tracking"

This helps you to track user behavior in cases where a user is visiting multiple domains you own. This frequently comes into play on e-commerce sites that use a third-party checkout provider. If you fail to set up cross-domain tracking, Google Analytics will not be able to track the entire buying process, ending a session when a user leaves one domain and creating an entirely new session when that user arrives at the second domain.

6. Set up "advanced segments"

This tool provides another way of slicing up your visitors. For example, you can divide visitors into those who came from paid advertising, from organic searches and from directly typing in your domain name. Or perhaps you want to see what new visitors coming to your site after a search query do after landing on a specific page of your website and you wish to track this regularly. This information gives you key data on your paid marketing and SEO efforts.

7. Set Up "campaign tagging"

Wherever you promote your site, whether it's on Google, through a paid advertising campaign, or through social media, you need to create URLs that identify the source and nature of the visit. For example, if you launch an email marketing campaign, you want your URLs linking back to your website to contain various attributes, such as source ("Email to Prospects #4"), medium ("Email"), name ("Email to Prospects 2012"), etc. The data provided by campaign tagging will help you see which marketing and advertising channels are providing the best ROI and which ones either need to be improved or abandoned.

8. Establish "e-commerce tracking"

By enabling e-commerce tracking on Google Analytics and coding your shopping cart's receipt page, your sales revenue data is sent directly to Google Analytics and is available to you in a simple, straight forward report.

9. Filter IP addresses

Certain visits to your website distort your analytics. These include all internal (company) visits and repeat visits from spammers. By using Google Analytics to filter these IP addresses out of the equation, you get a purer set of visitor stats.
Whether you have someone in the company who really understands Google Analytics or hire an outside agency with Google Analytics expertise, get someone one board who can help you set up and monitor all of these valuable tools. Chances are, very few of your competitors are digging deep enough into their data, so the more you do the better off you are.

Google Search Trick to Avoid unwanted result: Google Search filter trick

As we all know Google is the best search engine considered today but even though being popular, it always don’t give us the desired result. Today there are millions of millions sites as well as blogs publishing article about the same subject and Google displays result from those sites. Butit is not always that all the web links it displays, we are looking for, but if this is the same situation you came across a lot of time then here is a ip which can help you lot.
Google has several built in functions that will help you make your searches more successful, and to enable you to spend less time searching. Now in this post today I will let you know a tip how you can remove unwanted (unrelated) results from Google Search Result.

Ever searched for something before, and had a whole list of completely irrelevant web pages come up? This is annoying at the best of times, as it takes time to check and read through the list of sites and find the one you actually want.
For example, if you were looking for a review of the book “Harry Potter” (whatever part of it), and you typed into Google “Harry Potter review”, many of the links listed are reviews of the movie, not the book. Because you are not looking for a review of the movie, you can remove all pages related to the movie by adding “-movie” to the end of your search terms.

This will now display all the pages relevant to “Harry Potter review“, but not relevant to ” Harry Potter movie”.
Isn’t this trick amazing… hope you enjoyed reading the article.

Trick to reduce file size of any JPEG images less than even half of its original size…

Jpeg format is one of the most used file format when we have to deal with images or pictures… Though JPEG images are the most compressed along with the high quality digital output file format… but even being so; its irritates us many time when we have several images which we have to mail someone.
Many times we have to reduce the quality to a very low level… which sometimes does not seems fair. Now what is the reason why these jpeg files seems to be heavy and how to reduce their file size without loosing image quality.
These days almost every jpeg file we have is highly optimized…. it doesn’t matter whether it is a raw shoot or saved from any image editor. Which means it contains all the file info details like what is the camera model and all the shoot properties or from which software it is saved as well as details like operating system, users etc…. etc… Finally which results in the heavy file size.
Now what is the way to reduce file size… doesn’t any new trick but the old one which we have almost forget… saving any jpeg through Microsoft Paint.. which eventually removes out the file details making the lowest possible file size. I have tested this trick personally and the results were awesome. If you are a web-designer then I am sure this trick is worth for you… then why not just say me thanx via subscribing to feed-burner subscription.

Googlebot, Search Engine Bot, Crawling Bots and Robots

With the start of dylx-infotech I was keeping eye on my latest visitor and webserver http logs . I was surprised with googlebot. it was just two days and more and googlebot has knocked to my blog.
Still I am not able to find how googlebot got my blog traces and reached to my site. Same is the case with other crawling bots. Every day I see some new robot hitting my blog. Well but my favorite is only googlebot. Day after crawling my blog it has already started showing search result.
I assume googlebot also keeps look on new entry in DNS servers that’s only possibility to reach to my blog as I don’t have any backlinks from other site. Here is screenshot of spider, robots visitors to my blog.
googlebot,robots,spiders-visitors
WordPress has very good plug-in for stats and also for googlebot visitor
I really want to understand how all this robots and other crawling bots gets site links As per my understanding googlebot and other bots follows to links so until and unless you get link from other site to your site called as backlinks, No bot will be able to reach to your sites. Lets see when I will be able to get answer of this mystery.
Google webmaster has really good post on All about Googlebot and also check out Googleblog for all latest news about googlebot
Webmasters need to keep close eye on http server logs since apart from crawling bots you will see some other bots – Spam Bots, Junk Bots, Research Bots, Search Engine Bot, and News Bot etc. Every day new bots are getting added to internet word. Webmasters will be happy with Search Engine Bots but might not with other bots.
Since bots do eat up lots of hosting bandwidth and this is not good for those webmasters who have less bandwidth or their site traffic is huge and bots will add up more load on network and whole site will be under Error 404 Page Not Found .If we try to calculate Quality traffic of internet then it will be only 40-60% remaining percentages accounts for all this bots. Our Main concern is Spam bot and all those useless bots.
For webmasters ultimate goal is to protect their site from spam bots. Following are ways to block any bot from accessing or crawling your site
1) Robots.txt
2) .htaccess
3) IP deny thru Control panel
Will continue in next post…

Retrieve Private Browsing History on Firefox with PrivateBrowsingHistoryRecovery

Firefox Private browsing was introduced in Firefox 3.5 with the goal to protect user privacy. In a regular browsing session Firefox or any other browser tracks and records lots of data such as the site user visits, search bar entries, download lists, cookies & web cache files but if you don’t want Firefox to record this stuff then that’s where private browsing comes to the rescue.
You can enable Firefox private browsing by hitting Ctrl+Shift+P shortcut or via Firefox Menu -> Start Private Browsing option. You might be thinking private browsing will save you from other users of computer snooping into browser history; unfortunately that’s not true. Your private browsing history can be easily recovered with one of the Firefox extension, PrivateBrowsingHistoryRecovery.
The Nicoleta developer behind this extension says that, “The extension was implemented as a part of my dissertation project with the aim to illustrate the limitations found on private browsing mode.”
To install PrivateBrowsingHistoryRecovery visit this extension page and hit Add to Firefox button and restart your browser.

Once installed you can load the private history sidebar using CTRL+SHIFT+U as the shortcut keyboard key, or otherwise by selecting on Firefox View-> Sidebar-> PrivateBrowsingRetriever. Once sidebar is loaded every sites you visits in your private browsing session will be recorded proving Firefox Private Browsing is not truly that private.

Increase the life of ur dvd rom

This is an interesting one!!!

This is for those who watch movies on their computer's dvd rom drive!!!
There is a software called dvd idle pro which can really increase the life of your dvd drive. By using the Smart Read-ahead Cache,
DVDIdle saves DVD data which will be played soon onto the hard disk cache or RAM cache, and
then feeds it to DVD player.
This allows the DVD drive to rest.

For example:
a 6X-speed DVD drive will only work for 15 minutes when you are watching a 90 minutes DVD
movie.
here is the link: http://www.dvdidle.com/download/DVDIdlePro59.exe
